Mapping

Here are some shots of students creating their own maps.  Your child will bring his or her map, along with the rubric for creating it, home next week.

When you look at your child’s map, be sure to ask:

1. Is this a real city/town or a made-up one?

2. What symbols did you use?

3. What does each symbol represent?

4. How do you know which direction is north?

5.  Can you explain the map key?

These are all skills we’ve been working on in class during the last few weeks.  Students have enjoyed looking at maps of Louisville, the United States, and imaginary places, as we have studied the importance of maps.

What does your family use maps for?
