First Week in Review

Hello kindergarten families!

After waiting two days because of last week's storm, we enjoyed our first three days of school.

I forgot to bring the pictures of our activities home with me this weekend, so I can't show you what we've been up to.  I can tell you, though!

First of all, we've already started learning to read!!!!

We now know that there are 3 ways to read a book.

We practiced each of these ways by reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and by reading the books in our new book boxes.  We are working to build our stamina for Read to Self, part of our daily literacy activities.  By Friday, we were able to read independently for 7 minutes.  It is our goal to soon "read to self" for 20 minutes.

In addition to learning about reading books, we've made many new friends, met lots of people who work in the school, and have learned about routines that will help us work hard in kindergarten all year long.

On Friday we had a fire drill.  We know exactly what to do when we hear that loud noise.  We know that these practice drills will help us know what to do to stay safe if there is a real emergency one day.

Next week we will continue working on routines for all of our classroom work, meet more people who work at the school, and begin Math Workshop, among other activities.

Enjoy your weekend!
