Meet Mrs. Hawley

My name is Mrs. Hawley and I am excited to be your teacher.  This year we will learn a lot and have many adventures.  I can't wait to learn all about you, but first, I'll tell you about me.

GirlsI was born and raised in Barron, Wisconsin and have 2 sisters.  I am the middle child.  Are any of you a middle child?  I attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Minneapolis, where I majored in communications, business management, and Spanish.  After that, I attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where I got my teaching degree.  I am certified in Early Childhood through 6th Grade.  I am also a National Board Certified Teacher.  I earned this honor in 2008.  I have taught in Jefferson County for 7 years.  I taught first grade for one year, kindergarten for 5 years, and last year taught a K/1 split class.

I am married to a wonderful man named Josh.  He is a student at the UofL and on many days, we carpool to our schools since they are so close.  You will probably get to meet him once or twice this year.  He sometimes brings me lunch when I forget mine :)

100_2051We have two cats - Casey and Joey.  You will learn a lot about them because I like to tell stories about the crazy things they do.  During writing time, I like to write some of my stories about them.

When I am at home, I like to sew and cross-stitch, cook and bake, and spend time with family.  On Sunday afternoons, we either hang out at one family's house or we go to another family's house and play games.  I love to read books.  I always have a stack of library books in the living room so I am never without something to read.

Some other things about me:
* My favorite color is royal blue.  It is a bright, happy color.
* Irises are my favorite flower.  My grandparents had an iris flower garden when I was growing up and I liked to walk through it and see how many different kinds of irises I could see.
* Baseball is my favorite sport.  In college, I worked for the Minnesota Twins.  I got to hand out free tickets and prizes to people who played games with us.  I also got to pick people to sing the National Anthem.  That was my favorite job before I became a teacher.
* I love to bike.  I didn't get to at all this summer and I missed it.  One summer, I rode more than 1,000 miles!

Finally, here is a picture of my kindergarten class.  Can you tell which one is me?

You will learn many more things about me this school year, and I can't wait to start learning about each of you!

See you soon!
